Land Rover Range Rover OBD fault codes – complete list

I’ve been a proud owner of a Range Rover Sport for a few years now, and I can confidently say that it’s one of the most reliable and capable SUVs on the market.

However, even the best vehicles can experience problems from time to time, and that’s where the onboard diagnostics (OBD) system comes in.

In this article, I’ll share some key takeaways and answers to frequently asked questions about OBD error codes and the Range Rover OBD list of error codes – yeah, there are loads because Range Rovers are notorious for being jam-packed with sensors everywhere!

What models are affected?

What is an OBD for a Range Rover?

Simply put, it’s a computer system that’s built into your vehicle that can detect and diagnose problems with various systems, such as the engine, transmission, and emissions.

It does this by monitoring sensors and sending data to the vehicle’s control module, which can then display error codes on the dashboard or through a diagnostic scanner.

Why use an OBD for your Range Rover?

There are a few key benefits to using the OBD system. For one, it can help you identify problems early on before they become major issues.

This can save you money on repairs in the long run and help you avoid costly breakdowns.

Additionally, using the OBD system can also help you maintain your vehicle’s performance and improve fuel efficiency.

Where is the OBD2 port on a Range Rover?

The OBD2 port is located under the dashboard on the driver’s side, usually in the area near the steering wheel.

It’s a rectangular shape and is labelled with the letters “OBD” or “OBD II.”

What diagnosis does an OBD give you?

The OBD system can give you a wealth of information about your vehicle’s performance.

It can detect problems with the engine, transmission, emissions, and other systems.

Some common diagnostic codes include P codes (powertrain) and C codes (chassis). These codes indicate everything from a misfiring engine to a faulty transmission control module.

The Range Rover OBD list of error codes

If your Range Rover has thrown up an error on the dashboard, shown an error light, or, worst case scenario, won’t start, simply plug in your OBD reader and find the code, then diagnose from the table below.

Summary

In conclusion, the OBD system for a Range Rover is an essential tool for troubleshooting and maintaining your vehicle.

It can give you a wealth of information about your vehicle’s performance and help you identify problems early on.

Remember that the OBD2 port is located under the dashboard on the driver’s side and if you need further assistance, always consult with a qualified mechanic.

Regular check-ups of the OBD system can prevent costly breakdowns and improve your vehicle’s performance and fuel efficiency.

FAQs

How do I know if my Range Rover has an OBD system?

Most vehicles manufactured after 1996 are required to have an OBD system. If your Range Rover was made after this date, it should have one.

Can I fix OBD error codes myself?

Some OBD error codes can be resolved with simple fixes, such as tightening a loose gas cap. However, many codes will require the attention of a qualified mechanic.

How often should I check my Range Rover’s OBD system?

It’s a good idea to check the OBD system regularly, especially if you notice any warning lights or strange behavior from your vehicle.

  1. Great article. I have two questions. (1) Can a typical ODB reader also reset a code? I have an emission system alert go off whenever I take our 2017 RR Sport from sea level to the mountains of Colorado. I think it is simply the elevation causing problems for an O2 sensor. I’d like to reset to see if it is OK now that I’m back in Texas.
    (2) Is there any way to adjust the setting for the low battery alert. I get the low battery alert often, even though the voltage level is consistantly at or above 12.15 volts.

    • Hi Tim!

      1. Nearly every single OBD reader can reset a code unless it’s a read only scanner. But, like I said – most do have the ability to erase codes and give you an indepth analysis on each code.

I have a guide on the best OBD scanners here: https://rangeroverfanatic.com/best-land-rover-obd-scanner/

      2. Before resetting your battery, check to see if there is any wiring issues that may be causing a delayed drain as it will only get worse! Alternatively, you can force reset the battery which is basically disconnecting the battery and leaving for 15 mins and reconnect!

Let me know how you get on.
